Prof. Bharat Raj Singh, Director General (Technical) at School of Management Sciences, Lucknow, highlighted the scientific relevance of Shiva worship during the holy month of Shravan on 23 Jul 2025. In Indian tradition, Shravan is considered sacred and devoted to the worship of Lord Shiva through rituals like fasting, offering water and sacred leaves on Lingam, and performing Rudrabhishek, which gives positive energy absorved by Cylindricai Shiva-Lingamm. He stated that beyond faith, these practices also carry scientific benefits. For instance, the environmental conditions in Shravan affect immunity, and rituals like fasting, meditation, and water offerings have positive effects on body, mind, and surroundings. Chanting mantras and collective prayers generate positive vibrations, fostering mental and emotional balance.
Furthermore, the Kanwar Yatra promotes physical endurance, discipline, and environmental consciousness through water conservation and tree planting. Thus, Shiva worship in Shravan is not just spiritual, but a holistic wellness practice integrating science, nature, and society.

The recent disaster on 4th Aug 2025 in the Dharali region of Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, has once again highlighted the increasing vulnerability and risks in the Himalayan region. While the media has described the incident as a "cloudburst," Prof. Bharat Raj Singh, Director General of the School of Management Sciences, Lucknow, explains that this was not merely a cloudburst event but rather the result of climate change, rapidly melting glaciers, and geological instability. The Himalayas are the world’s third-largest source of glaciers, where glacier melt rates have reached 60-70% in recent decades. This threatens the fragile Himalayan ecology and human settlements.
Rapid urbanization, mining, large-scale construction, and environmental pressures have weakened the delicate geological structure of the region, resulting in an increase in landslides, land subsidence, and floods.Events like Dharali, Joshimath, and Kedarnath earlier, there is a clear demand for pre-planned, organized, and sustainable rehabilitation. The ‘Foothill Residential Infrastructure’ model is a practical and effective step toward providing Himalayan residents with safe housing, livelihoods, and social stability, to reduce disaster risk and ensure sustainable development in Himalayan regions.
